HeuLab Pte Ltd has been appointed to implement a one year long pilot project with Association of Independent Schools of Queensland (ISQ). The project kicked off in Jan 2007 and will end by Dec 2007. It involves five of its independent schools in Queensland; Caloundra City School, Forest Lake College, Stuartholme School, Ipswich Grammar School, and Mackay Christian College.

The selection process of the schools to participate in the pilot involves agreement from school management to support the purchase of Tablet PC and implementation of HeuLab solutions. Also necessary is a continuous support of Professional Development for its teachers. These five schools have each submitted their plan for ICT integration with use of Tablet PC and HeuLab solutions, along with the desired outcomes. All of which will be judged upon towards the end of the pilot project in Dec 2007.

A series of on-site installation of HeuLab software, including “Fun With Construction”, “Fun With Mindbook”, “D-Book” and “HeuCampus” were completed in early Feb 2007. To kick-start the user with know-how in using the installed devices and solutions, the first Professional Development session was conducted from 6th to 9th Feb 2007. The four day workshop skilled the participants with basic knowledge of using the Tablet PC, and training of HeuLab applications.

HeuLab continue to support the schools in their journey of integrating ICT into classroom by having one of its staff to be stationed in Brisbane, permanently. There were some initial challenges with each school moving in different pace and having different change processes. But once these issues been resolved, both the teaching staff and students are enjoying every bit of these changes.

A second Professional Development session, titled “Sharing of Experience in the first three months” was held on 19th June 2007. The objective is for each school to present and share their findings, problems etc with all, so as to allow a learning of experiences within the pilot schools. All of the participants are amazed by how each school uses the applications differently.

The remaining six months before the completion of the pilot project will focus on actual classroom changes and practices while users are exposed to different options via ICT. HeuLab will continue to support the program technically, while arranging for other educators from abroad to share and discuss their experiences with these pilot schools. A final report is to be released by Dec 2007, to conclude the study and its effectiveness in engaging students, teaching staff through use of ICT in classroom.
