Crescent GirlsSchool (CGS) has been established since 1956 and became an autonomous school in 1956. It is a premier girls' school that aims at providing a nurturing and innovative environment for empowering generations of students to be gracious, confident ladies as well as caring, visionary leaders.
Challenge
As a leading educational institution in Singapore, Crescent Girls' School is committed to the advancement of students and knowledge. To fulfill this commitment, the school needs a solution to enhance students' learning experience, and to foster additional interactivity inside and outside the classrooms, among teachers, students and parents. Moving in tandem with the goals of Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and Microsoft Singapore to enhance the learning experience through technology in education, Crescent Girls' School is participating in BackPack.NET, a five years' initiative.
BackPack.NET is a strategic collaboration between IDA and Microsoft Singapore, which encourages student-centric learning through the use of Tablet PCs, digital inking and other innovative technologies.
Therefore CGS' s challenge has always been to source for more software solutions that will be able to help them achieve an interactive technological learning environment. What is needed are learning tools that can be used on Tablet PCs in classrooms by both students and teachers.
Solutions
In a highly innovative learning project, the entire cohort of secondary education students and their teachers at CGS are equipped with Tablet PCs. The full deployment of HeuLab Fun With Virtual Classroom and HeuLab Fun With Construction of the FunPack Series have significantly improved the efficiency and quality of learning in both the subjects of Mathematics and Geography as well as improve the collaboration between the teacher and the student.
HeuLab FunPack Series and Microsoft Learning Gateway have provided the virtual space that students, teachers and parents use to turn their school into a life-size laboratory. In Crescent Girls' School, the educational tools of the future are already in place.

Fun With Virtual Classroom
The HeuLab Fun With Virtual Classroom helps in class administration, collaboration and control. It makes learning more interactive and fun. The students enjoy learning and are able to collaborate with the teacher in class and out of class without restriction. The teachers are able to check the understanding of the subjects taught through quizzes and instant feedback.
The resulting solution of using Microsoft Learning Gateway as the managed environment gives the school a powerful base for the front-end tool HeuLab Fun With Virtual Classroom and their customised CrezSphere portal. This has provided Crescent Girls' School with a flexible system that works just as well on Tablet PCs, conventional desktops PCs, and laptops for teachers, students, and parents.
The use of Microsoft Learning Gateway has enabled teachers to deliver lessons and assessments over the internet. The applications available on the portal help teachers to mark assignments and assessments, allowing them to devote more time to teaching. HeuLab FunPack Series and Microsoft Learning Gateway work together to revolutionize the teaching and learning methods in the school and marks an important milestone in Crescent Girls' School's pursuit to achieve its goal of an interactive technological learning environment. |

The HeuLab Fun With Construction provides digitized and personalized versions of geometric instruments such compasses, protractors, set squares and rulers. It uses an automated shape recognizer for hassle-free drawing, recognizing and transforming written text to digital text.
HeuLab Fun With Construction is highly versatile and is used for solving geometrical equations, loci, statistics, geometry, trigonometry and even map reading in Geography.
For teachers, these virtual Mathematics construction tools help to create a time efficient and effective teaching experience. Students are more motivated to learn with the numerous features of the software.
HeuLab Fun With Construction allows students to learn Mathematics in an entirely new way. The application has been developed to use the Tablet PCs stylus capabilities to its fullest potential. |
